Thalen (THAY-lin)
Other Names: The Weaponer (a title he does not particularly enjoy)
Role: God of the Forge, Inventions, and Weapons
Symbol: A hammer within an anvil
Weapon: A heavy maul of his own creation (Dominance)
Thalen is, by any measure, the greatest craftsman who has ever lived — and he knows it. Originally the god of the forge, his reputation grew so enormous that the other gods began coming to him personally to commission their weapons. What started as vanity on their part became something Thalen embraced wholeheartedly. If a god wanted a weapon worthy of a god, there was only one place to go.
His crowning personal achievement is Dominance, a massive maul he created for himself and endowed with secrets known only to him. It is not simply a weapon — it is an engineering marvel. With the activation of levers and cogs built into the handle and head, Dominance can transform: extending a spear-like point, revealing a bladed edge, or opening into a claw mechanism. It is, like everything Thalen makes, simultaneously brutal and brilliant.
In the aftermath of the God Rain, Thalen’s followers — recognizable by their distinctive long-handled battle hammers — are among the rare few who still wear their devotion openly. Smiths, engineers, inventors, and soldiers who appreciate fine craftsmanship still invoke his name, though they do so in a world that has grown deeply suspicious of anything divine.
Interesting Facts:
- Thalen genuinely dislikes being called “The Weaponer.” It reduces him to one facet of what he does. He is a god of invention — weapons are simply the most requested application of that gift.
- During the God Rain, when everything was falling apart in Tannerian, Thalen stood alongside Inaias in the throne room itself. Whatever happened there, he did not run.
