Taeral (TER-al)

Race: Elf

Role: Street Performer, Illusionist

Taeral is the kind of person a crowd loves immediately and completely — and he knows exactly how to use that. Young in appearance, though with elves that means almost nothing, he works the streets of Tevec with colored balls, sleight of hand, and a smile that makes everyone around him feel like they are in on the joke. His bright green eyes catch the light. His timing is impeccable. His hat on the ground fills with coins from people who came to watch and stayed longer than they intended.

He is charming without effort, quick without being showy about it, and possessed of the particular gift that the best street performers share — the ability to make everyone watching feel like the show is being done just for them. His misdirection is flawless. People watch exactly what he wants them to watch, and miss exactly what he wants them to miss. The crowd always leaves delighted.

He has a regular audience in Tevec — including at least one wealthy, well-connected elf who stops to watch his act and loses his coins with cheerful regularity. Taeral always wins. His challenger always comes back. It has become something of a ritual.

Interesting Facts:

  • He has never once lost the wager game. Not once. Whether that is skill, luck, or something else entirely is a question no one in the crowd thinks to ask — because the show is too good to look that closely.
  • The smile he wears while juggling and the smile he wears when things get serious are identical. That is worth paying attention to.
