Fivic “One-Eye” Grimjaw
(FIV-ic GRIM-jaw)

Race: Dwarf
Role: Co-Proprietor of Blood, Sweat & Tears; Fighter

Fivic Grimjaw has both his eyes. He has always had both his eyes. The nickname “One-Eye” has a different origin story every single time someone asks, and Fivic has never once told the same story twice. Taybrin asks every time she sees him purely out of tradition. He loves this about her.

He is stocky even by dwarven standards — all low center of gravity and calloused hands and unkempt black beard — with tanned, weathered skin that is a canvas of old scars and fresh bruises in roughly equal measure. His dark eyes twinkle with mischief as a default expression, and his grin, wide enough to show the two teeth he is missing, is the first thing most people notice and the last thing they forget. He fights with the kind of deceptive agility that has been making opponents twice his size deeply regret their assumptions for decades — ducking haymakers, driving shoulders into midsections, and finishing with uppercuts that echo around the arena like a thunderclap.

He and Cellyndis Holyoak built Blood, Sweat & Tears together, and their framed release papers from a prison on the Odran Trax border hang side by side on her office wall — displayed rather than hidden, a monument to where they came from and how far they have traveled since. Their establishment runs on a simple policy: no alcohol. The fights are exciting enough without it, and the furniture lasts considerably longer.

Fivic has a past he has genuinely left behind. He is gregarious, loud, and almost constitutionally incapable of a quiet entrance — but beneath all of that is a man with a genuine moral line he has never crossed and will not cross for any price. When something violates that line, his price drops to almost nothing and his cooperation becomes absolute.

Interesting Facts:

  • He has never once given the same explanation for his nickname twice. Whether any of the stories are true is information he guards more carefully than anything else about himself.
  • He is in better fighting shape than men a third his age and has the record to prove it. The opponents who underestimate him based on his size tend to wake up some time later wondering what happened.
