Amandal
(au-man-DAUL)

Race: Elf
Role: Sailor, Swordsman

Amandal is the kind of man who doesn’t need to announce himself. He is tall and lean with sandy-brown wavy hair and the sharp, watchful eyes of someone who has spent a long time learning to read situations before they develop into problems. His pointed ears and elven features give him an ageless quality — he could be thirty or three hundred, and he has no particular interest in clarifying which. He carries himself with a quiet, unhurried authority that has nothing to do with rank and everything to do with experience.

In a fight, the difference between Amandal and a less seasoned warrior is immediately apparent. Where younger fighters grow frantic under pressure — too fast, too wide, burning energy on movement that doesn’t accomplish anything — Amandal is almost impossibly controlled. Every step is measured. Every swing is calculated. He has fought enough to know that patience in combat is not hesitation — it is the thing that keeps you alive when everyone around you is making mistakes. He reads a situation, picks his angle, and moves with a precision that looks almost effortless to anyone who doesn’t know how hard that kind of control is to develop.

Off the battlefield he is reserved but not cold — the kind of man who listens more than he speaks and whose rare opinions, when offered, tend to land with more weight for their scarcity. He is deeply loyal to those he considers his own, and that loyalty runs both directions without qualification.

Interesting Facts:

  • He has an instinctive ability to orient himself by the moons — something he uses as naturally as most people use landmarks. In unfamiliar territory, in the dark, under pressure, he can look up and know exactly where he is. It has saved lives more than once.
  • The bond between Amandal and his cousin Romyn is one of the defining relationships in his life. Where he is measured and controlled, she is pure instinct and speed — opposites that complement each other perfectly in a fight.
