Taybrin
(TAY-brin)

Race: Human
Role: Crew Member, Copper Horizon

Taybrin is the kind of woman who sizes you up in about three seconds and has already decided what she thinks of you before you’ve finished your first sentence. She is compact, muscular, and carries herself with the easy confidence of someone who has never needed to prove herself twice in the same room. Her dark hair is pulled back under a red bandana, her green eyes miss nothing, and her expression at rest lands somewhere between unimpressed and actively skeptical — which, once you get to know her, turns out to be her version of neutral.

She is one of the first faces new arrivals to the Copper Horizon encounter, and she makes an impression immediately — though not always the warm kind. She speaks plainly, acts quickly, and has little patience for people who waste either her time or words. She is sharp, practical, and keenly observant, with the kind of situational awareness that comes from years of working a ship where missing something can get people killed.

Her right arm bears a full sleeve tattoo — a vivid, detailed depiction of a massive squid locked in battle with a monstrous shark, rendered in striking color from shoulder to wrist. She wears wide wrist and arm bands, a brass pectoral necklace with a single garnet at the throat, and a matching garnet ring on the first finger of her right hand. Her cutlass is always within reach and she handles it with the casual efficiency of someone who has never had to think twice about using it.

She and Gorrell operate as a unit so naturally that the crew rarely needs to be told the same thing twice.

Interesting Facts:

  • Her first impression of Sabrael and Narina on the docks was not particularly charitable. She came around. It didn’t take as long as she expected.
  • When something unexpected happens on or off the ship, Taybrin’s first instinct is always to assess, then act — never the other way around. It has served her well.
