The Liseands are a large, warm, and thoroughly human family making the final leg of a journey toward a new life. Tram and Mika have built something remarkable together — nine people, seven children ranging from a pair of thirteen-year-old twin boys down to a two-year-old girl, held together by love, noise, and the particular organized chaos that only a family of this size can produce.
Tram is steady and practical, the kind of father who keeps his head when things go sideways and his hand on his sword when the situation demands it. Mika is the emotional center of the family — her yelling when things go wrong is the sound that brings everyone around her running. Together they have raised children who are brave, protective of one another, and deeply bonded. The twins Ryker and Harlan are already showing the instincts of young men — the kind who step forward rather than back when others need protecting. Eight-year-old Brigg watches his older brothers with open admiration and does his best to live up to them. Brynlee at six is perceptive and quietly fierce. The four-year-old twins Harper and Haylee are inseparable and immediately attached themselves to Pa’Treex the moment they met her, each claiming one of her hands as they set out. And little Maddi, at two, simply wants to be wherever her family is.
They are, in every sense, a family worth protecting.
